On June 12-13, 2025, the Mežaparks Grand Bandstand will host the first Alternative Culture and Music Festival “Ecosystemic”. This festival is dedicated to the ecosystem of alternative culture and arts, highlighting its development, interaction with the environment, and its many diverse expressions.
“Ecosystemic” offers a vibrant, action-packed, and multifaceted program, showcasing less familiar and alternative art forms. The event will focus on the “ecosystem” of alternative culture and arts, consisting of various “organisms” – alternative music from nine countries, exchanging energy to spark expansive, cross-genre cultural phenomena. The festival will bring together alternative music in all its diversity, contemporary performances, and a variety of creative activities, offering attendees a chance to embrace the richness and variety of alternative culture.
Mežaparks Grand Bandstand as an Ecosystem
“At the festival, it’s important to appreciate the very environment we are in. The event encompasses the Mežaparks Grand Bandstand, featuring two stages with concert programs highlighting various styles and artists, and a space in the pine forest surrounding the Bandstand, with tents and platforms for contemporary theatre, performances, and various activities. “Ecosystemic” creates an environment where arts and nature meet to inspire and educate”, say the festival’s hosts, the Culture Association of Northern Riga.
Expansive and Diverse Event Program
Here’s a glimpse into the vibrant and multifaceted event ahead. A total of 18 musicians and musical acts are expected to perform, including internationally recognized artists such as Of The Wand & The Moon (Denmark), Harakiri for the Sky (Austria), Kannabinõid (Estonia) and Vėlių Namai (Lithuania), and local talents like Juuk, Bel Tempo, Nielslens Lielsliens, Dzelzs Vilks with a retrospective of their early works, among others. In addition to the musical program, the festival features guest performances by various non-commercial theatre groups, along with dance performances – such as a specially created butō dance, contrived to express the core idea of “Ecosystemic”.
The event kicks off on Thursday, June 12, with a festive “Ecosystemic “opening performance featuring DJ Krankenwagen, and continues on June 13 until late into the night, showcasing the diversity of alternative culture at its finest. In addition to the musical program, Friday will offer a family-friendly environment with puppet theatre performances, creative workshops, exhibitions, and other activities designed to spark curiosity about music, art, and nature, ensuring an unforgettable event experience for everyone.
